Looks like I get to be the first to post under this heading. While fleet 35 is not yet an active fleet we will be meeting 5/31 to ink our charter to reactivate this fleet in Jacksonville Florida. Plans have been underway for some time now and we have seven or eight folks interested with a good cross section of racing and cruising interest represented. Some of you know that my club, the Rudder Club of Jacksonville, hosted our first Florida Travel series regatta in March of this year. Pics are linked elsewhere on this forum. Next year this regatta will be the region 3 championship regatta. Fleet 35 will be the host fleet. Gene Ferguson has posted a notice on the NSA website to help draw attention to our efforts to reactivate fleet 35. National Rear Commodore Jennifer Brown as well as National Commodore Rich Fox have also been very helpful in helping me pull this together. My thanks go out to them. Numerous folks from other c22 fleets have also been encouraging. Wish us luck as we move ahead.

We had six of the ten folks who had expressed interest in the fleet show for the meeting. Two of the remaining four had contacted me and couldn't make it because of conflicting schedules. And since the meeting one more person has told me they wanted to be a part of the fleet. Looks like we are off to a pretty good start. One of the members was in fleet 35 when it was active before, like 10 years ago. His boat is immaculate and he is race focused. It looks like most of the group wants to go racing. We will try to get out for some Friday night beer can racing over the summer. And will get as many of us out as possible for the first race of local fall series, The Labor Day Regatta. Good chance we will have enough for our own start. Next will be to try and get some of these guys to join me on the road for the Florida Travel Series. And of course my club and fleet 35 will host the Region 3 Championship Regatta in March. Anyway, we elected officers and inked the charter. So fleet 35 is now active in Jacksonville Florida

Thanks. Funny you should say that. It has been suggested to me by a couple of people that we should put in a bid for the 2010 nationals. I brought it up to the board of the club and the idea was well received. But I have heard through the grapevine that somebody else is way further ahead than we are. We have the region 3 championship coming to the Rudder Club in March. This event historically has huge turnouts and I think we will pass on a bid for the nationals and concentrate on the region 3 championship.
