Hi David and everyone. Here are a few new items I made to make my C22 HOPE, #403 work better.
First is an anchor chain hause using the hole in the deck made by removing the red and green running light. It was made by using 1.5" sked #40 PVC. Anchor line and chain was moved to forepeak. When not in use, the cap is turned to make it water proof.

Second is a keel guide made with the same 1.5" sked. #40 PVC. Joints are not glued yet and are held with a stainless screw. Four rectangular U bolts are used to fasten to trailer frame. I have used this several time and has worked very well, allowing easy single handed launching.

Hope this works,

Kevin,
I've been here a bunch of times, but somehow missed this post! Anyway, I like your creations! Good stuff. I especially like the keel guide with the 'no new holes in the trailer' feature. Wish I would have thought of that! I'm afraid I would destroy that PVC, though. The way I get Dumbo on the trailer isn't always graceful....

Nice work!

David

I did pretty much the same with my keel guide, but used conduit. I glued in 6" pieces of dowel with one side flattened to keep the ends from collapsing but allow water to drain out.

Sorry, I haven't been to his part of the site for a while.
I think your conduit is pretty slick and it looks like it will work well.

I have had a reef put in my 130 jib and it works nice with a reef or two in the main when the afternoon thermal cranks up. But I don't really have a correct routine to put the reef in the jib. I know I'm doing it wrong because it takes too long.
Do you or anyone have a handle on how to reef a jib?

Thanks, Kevin

Hi Kevin. I have one that is a 135. I generally reef it before going out. Esp if it's windy already and espp if I have someone to man the tiller. But if I'm out on the water at and I can safely reef, I take the windward, jib sheet (That's not being used) and run it through the reef clew and back through the jib cars. Then I lower the jib to the reef tack, tie off the reef cringle lines, Tighten the jib halyard, Tack and relocate the other (now loose) jib sheet in the correct clew. For my Tacks and Clews I have bronze rings that are about 2" diam.

Thanks Bilbo,
All your advice sounds good.
I have a question about the Tack end of the sail. I have a snap shackle on the tack and have just re attached it to the reef tack cringle while the halyard is slack. I have been thinking about having a second shackle on a small pig tail so that the sail rides a bit more off the deck. What do you think of that?

If your forestay permits..sure.
I use a cut off loop of my jib sheet rope to raise the foresail about a foot higher or so. It gives me good visibility forward and a bit more drive.
I'm more inclined to do this when the winds are low as it does raise the center point of the sail higher which can cause more heel if you're not careful.

Bilbo,
Yeah, your right about raising the sail. One probably is not going to reef unless the wind is up and keeping the center of effort low is good. I'll just have to practice to get my moves down.
Thanks for your input. I'll send some pictures when I get things organized.
